Batua adalah nama sebuah kelurahan di Kecamatan Manggala, Kota Makassar, Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia. Kelurahan ini memiliki luas wilayah 1,89 km² yang terdiri dari 57 RT dan 11 RW. Secara astronomis, kelurahan ini berada pada titik koordinat 5°09'00.80" LS dan 119°27'41.10" BT. Jumlah penduduk Kelurahan Batua pada tahun 2019 tercatat 20.249 jiwa. Kantor kelurahan ini beralamat di Jl. Abdullah Daeng Sirua No. 334, Kota Makassar.[1]

Kronik nama

Dalam bahasa Makassar, "batua" artinya batu yang keras. Disebut Kelurahan Batua karena di daerah tersebut terdapat banyak batu besar yang licin (batu laccu) di pinggir Sungai Paropo.

Sejarah penamaan Kelurahan Batua, menurut ceritanya bahwa ketika raja Kerajaan Tallo berkuasa. Ia dikenal sebagai raja yang arif dan bijaksana. Selain itu, ia juga dikenal senang berburu sambil mengelilingi wilayah dan melihat rakyatnya setiap saat. Satu diantara wilayah yang sering dikunjungi adalah tempat dimana dulu dia mengasingkan diri, yaitu daerah Paccinang yang sekarang ini ditempati PLTU Tello.

Ketika sang raja menuju ke Paccinang, ia sering singgah beristirahat di satu tempat, yang terdapat sebuah batu besar. Di tempat tersebut, raja dan prajuritnya beristirahat sejenak dan kemudian melanjutkan perjalanan. Pada saat sang raja dan prajuritnya ditanya "dari mana?", maka ia menjawab "kami singgah dulu di Batua", sehingga dari hal tersebut maka dikenallah daerah itu dengan sebutan Kampung Batua. Pada tahun 1992, Kampung Batua menjadi kelurahan, yaitu Kelurahan Batua.[1]
