Quần đảo Sandwich

Quần đảo Sandwich là tên gọi cũ của quần đảo Hawaii do thuyền trưởng James Cook đặt sau khi phát hiện ra quần đảo này vào ngày 18 tháng 1 năm 1778. Tên gọi này là để thể hiện lòng tôn trọng của ông đối với một trong những nhà tài trợ cho chuyến đi là John Montagu, bá tước đời thứ tư Sandwich, đồng thời khi đó đảm nhận chức vụ "First Lord of the Admiralty" (tương đương với chức danh Bộ trưởng bộ Hải quân thời kỳ đó) và là chỉ huy của Cook. Vào cuối thế kỷ 19, tên gọi này không còn được sử dụng nữa.

Không nên nhầm lẫn quần đảo Sandwich với quần đảo Nam Sandwich, một lãnh thổ phụ thuộc của Vương quốc Liên hiệp Anh và Bắc Ireland ở nam Đại Tây Dương và không có người sinh sống.
