Người thứ 41[2] (tiếng Nga: Сорок первый) là một cuốn tiểu thuyết khai thác đề tài Nội chiến Nga của nhà văn Boris Lavrenyov, ra đời năm 1923.

Boris Lavrenyov bắt đầu viết Người thứ 41 vào năm 1923, trong thời kỳ cuộc chiến đấu bảo vệ chính quyền Xô Viết đã đạt tới thắng lợi cuối cùng nhưng công cuộc xây dựng chủ nghĩa xã hội mới chỉ bắt đầu. Tác phẩm phản ánh sâu sắc những bi kịch, xung đột trong các mối quan hệ giữa người với người thời Nội chiến.

Nội dung

Nữ chiến sĩ Hồng quân Maryutka nhận lệnh áp giải một sĩ quan Bạch vệ bị bắt trong cuộc đụng độ giữa sa mạc về Bộ tham mưu mặt trận qua đường biển. Trên đường đi họ gặp bão. Một số người bị chết đuối, chỉ còn lại Maryutka và anh chàng tù binh nọ. Họ bị giạt vào một hòn đảo hoang vu. Trải qua nhiều hiểm nguy, hai con người ấy đã nương tựa vào nhau mà sống, và một tình yêu đẹp giữa họ đã nảy nở.

Tuy thế, mâu thuẫn giai cấp đối kháng giữa họ không thể hòa giải được, và nhiều khi, những tranh luận gay gắt này đã khiến hai người giận nhau. Nhưng nhờ tinh yêu, họ vẫn sống bên nhau, chấp nhận những dấu hiệu đầu tiên của một nguy cơ đổ vỡ.

Giữa lúc hai con người đang ốm yếu, kiệt quệ vì đói khát, bệnh tật và mong chờ đến một lúc nào đó được giải thoát khỏi nghịch cảnh này thì một chiếc thuyền xuất hiện. Chàng trai lao ra mừng rỡ. Khi nhận ra đó là thuyền của Bạch vệ, cô gái đã cuống quýt gọi người yêu quay lại. Song chàng sĩ quan vẫn mụ mị reo hò. Cô buộc phải nâng súng và bắn anh ta...

Đánh giá

Nếu trước đây trong văn chương, người ta luôn ca ngợi sức mạnh bất diệt và vạn năng của tình yêu, thậm chí còn lấy tình yêu làm mục đích sống tối thượng thì trong cuộc chiến đấu vì lý tưởng chính trị, lại nhiệt tình ngợi ca cái hào khí anh hùng, oanh liệt của những con người hết mình cho lý tưởng, chỉ biết có xung phong và hoàn thành nhiệm vụ. Dẫu vậy, với Người thứ 41, Boris Lavrenyov đã tỏ ra thành thật mà nhẫn tâm.

Tại Việt Nam, có một thời kỳ tác phẩm này bị cấm vì tính chất nhạy cảm và vấn đề góc cạnh mà nó đề cập.

Ngay từ khi mới ra đời đến nay, tác phẩm Người thứ 41 đã trở thành nguồn cảm hứng bất tận cho nhiều loại hình nghệ thuật khác.
