Чемпіонат 1888-89 — перший сезон в історії Футбольної ліги в Англії.

Огляд

У ньому взяли участь 12 команд, які провели по два матчі між собою. Змагання проходили з 8 вересня 1888 року до 20 квітня 1889 року. Перший матч був зіграний між «Вест-Бромвіч Альбіоном» та «Сток Сіті» (підсумковий рахунок 2:0). «Престон Норт-Енд» не програв жодного матчу і став першим чемпіоном Англії. 30 березня 1889 року «Престон Норт-Енд» став володарем Кубка Англії.
