Торпедо

Торпе́до (лат. torpedo, «заціпеніння») — латинська назва електричних скатів (зокрема, роду гнюси, підроду Torpediniformes). В свою чергу, назва походить від латинського torpere («заціпеніть, остовпіти»). У XVIII—XIX століттях термін став вживатися для найменування морських мін, а в подальшому — для найменуваняя рухомих підводних снарядів[1]. Також значить:

  • Торпедо — тип автомобільного кузова, поширеного по 1930-ті роки, мав сигароподібну форму із відкритим або складаним верхом і відсутністю бічних стійок.
  • Торпедо — назва панелі приладів автомобіля, що стало найменуванням за назвою компанії-виробника «Torpedo»[2].
  • Торпедо — втулка заднього колеса дорожнього велосипеда з барабанним гальмом. Також використовувалася в багатьох радянських велосипедах: «Україна», «Орлятко», «Салют», «Кама», «Лелека», «Десна».

Спорт

  • Торпедо (спортивне товариство) — добровільне спортивне товариство профспілок (ДСТ) в СРСР, на базі котрого засновувалися однойменні спортивні клуби з різних видів спорту. Об'єднувало робітників автомобільної, тракторної та авіаційної промисловості; пізніше стало частиною ДСТ «Труд»[3].
