Julius Ludwig Weisbach (10 Ağustos 1806, Mittelschmiedeberg, Erzgebirge - 24 Şubat 1871, Freiberg), Alman matematikçi ve mühendistir.

Hayatı

Weisbach, 1822-1826 yılları arasında Freiberg'deki Bergakademie'de okudu. Daha sonra Göttingen'de Carl Friedrich Gauss ve Viyana'da Friedrich Mohs ile çalıştı.[1]

1831'de, yerel Gymnasium'da matematik öğretmeni olarak çalıştığı Freiberg'e döndü. 1833'te Freiberg Bergakademie'de Matematik ve Dağ Makineleri Teorisi öğretmenliği yaptı. 1836'da uygulamalı matematik, mekanik, dağ makineleri teorisi ve sözde Markscheidekunst çalışmalarıyla profesörlüğe terfi etti.[2]

Weisbach, makine mühendisliği öğrencileri için Lehrbuch der Ingenieur- und Maschinenmechanik adında, 1845 ile 1863 yılları arasında pek çok kez genişletilen ve yeniden basılan etkili bir kitap yazdı.[3]

Ayrıca Darcy denklemini hala yaygın olarak kullanılan Darcy-Weisbach eşitliğine dönüştürdü.

1868'de İsveç Kraliyet Bilimler Akademisi'nin yabancı üyesi seçildi.
