Ildır, İzmir ilinin Çeşme ilçesine bağlı bir mahalledir.

Tarihçe

Antik Çağ

Ildır'ın antik dönemdeki adı Erythrai'dir. Erythrai sözcüğünün Yunancada “kırmızı” anlamına gelen Erythros'tan türediği, kent toprağını kırmızı renginden dolayı Erythra'nin “Kızıl Kent” anlamında kullanıldığı sanılmaktadır. Bir başka varsayıma göre ise kent adını ilk kurucu Giritli Rhadamanthes'in oğlu Erythros'tan almıştır.

Kentte ele geçen bulgular, bu yörede ilk Tunç Çağı'ndan bu yana yerleşimin olduğunu göstermiştir. İkinci kolonileşme döneminde kent, Atina Kralı Kadros soyundan gelen Knopos yönetimindeydi. Başlangıçta krallık ile yönetilen kent sonraları yine kral soyundan olan ancak halkın seçtiği Basileuslar tarafından yönetildi. Ion kentlerinin aralarında kurdukları Panionion dinsel ve siyasal birliğe katıldılar. Kent Pythagoras'la birlikte kısa süreli tiranlık dönemi yaşamış, bu dönemde üreterek dışarı sattığı değirmen taşlarıyla önem kazanmıştır.

Erythrai, Lidya ve daha sonra da Persler'in eline geçer. Pers boyunduruğuna karşı diğer Ion kentleri gibi ayaklanmaya katılan kente, bütün Ion kentleriyle birlikte M.Ö. 334'te İskender, bağımsızlığını kazandırır. İskender'in ölümünden sonra çıkan kargaşalar sonucu birçok el değiştiren Erythrai, Pergamon (Bergama) Krallığı'nın eline geçer. M.Ö.133'te Roma İmparatorluğu içinde özgür bir kent statüsü kazanır. Bu dönemde şarabı, keçileri, değirmen taşları ve kadın kahinleri Sibyl ile Herophile ile ün kazandı.

MÖ 1. yüzyılda depremler, savaşlar ve Romalı komutanların yağmaları yüzünden büyük yıkıma uğrayan yöre, 16. yüzyıldan sonra Ilderen ve Ildır adlarıyla anılmaya başladı.

Şehirde 1963-1966 yılları arasında Prof.Hakkı Gültekin ve sonraları Prof. Ekrem Akurgal tarafından kazı çalışmaları yapılmıştır. İlk önce MÖ 3. yüzyıl sonlarında yapıldığı sanılan akropolün kuzey yamaçlarındaki antik tiyatro toprak altından çıkarıldı. Akropolün en yüksek düzlüğünde yapılan araştırmalarda da Athena tapınağına ait kalıntılar bulundu. Şehrin etrafının 5 km uzunluğunda surla çevrili olduğu anlaşıldı. Tiyatro kısmen açığa çıkarıldı ve restorasyon çalışmaları yarım kaldı. Araştırmalarda akropolde MÖ 6. ve 7. yüzyıldan kalma çanak, çömlek, taş ve topraktan figürler bulundu. Bunlar Erythrai şehrinin en eski tarihî buluntularıdır.

Coğrafya

Ildır, Çeşme'nin kuzeyde bulunan Akdağlara açılan yerleşimidir. Aynı şekilde Ildır güney yoluyla Ovacık üstünden İzmir-Çeşme karayoluna, batı yoluyla Ilıca ve Çeşme'ye, kuzey yoluyla ise Balıklı Ova ve Küçükbahçe ile bağlantılıdır.
