1972-1973 Londra gribi salgını

Aralık 1972'de Birleşik Devletler'de 'Londra gribi' vakalarına ilişkin raporlar dolaşmaya başladı. 'Londra gribi', görünüşe göre ilk olarak 1971'de Hindistan'da tanımlanmış, ancak ilk olarak 1972'nin başlarında İngiltere'de farklı bir tür olarak tanımlanmış olan bir influenza virüsünün neden olduğu belirli bir influenza formuydu.[1]

İlerleme

14 Aralık'ta federal Hastalık Kontrol Merkezi (CDC) tarafından beş şehirde vaka olduğu bildirildi: Memphis, Kansas City, Baltimore, Anchorage ve Seattle.[2] 22 Aralık'a kadar, Güney Massachusetts'teki 2 kolejde salgınlar ile Hong-Kong gribinin bir çeşidi, 'A-İngiltere 72' (İngiltere'de 70 vaka tespit edildikten sonra) olarak tanımlandı.[3]

8 Ocak 1973 tarihli bir TV raporu, 18 eyaletin etkilendiğini ve Birleşik Krallık'ta 1000'den fazla ölüm olduğunu duyurdu.[4] 13 Ocak'ta New York Times, CDC'nin salgının salgın seviyesini aştığını düşündüğünü ve Kaliforniya'nın özellikle sert darbe aldığını duyurdu.[5]

Ulusal Hastalık Kontrol Merkezi'ne göre, 3 Şubat'ta ABD'deki Londra gribi ölümleri 1.027'ye ulaşarak bir önceki yılın Hong Kong gribi ölüm oranına yaklaştı.[6]

Uluslararası raporlar

Dünya Sağlık Örgütü, diğer dört ülkede yerel salgınlarla birlikte Sovyetler Birliği, Hollanda, İsviçre, Fas ve Lübnan'da da salgınlar bildirdi.[6]
