Si Macario Sakay y de León (1870 – 13 Setyembre 1907) ay isang Pilipinong heneral na nakibahagi sa Himagsikang Pilipino noong 1896 laban sa Espanya at sa Digmaang Pilipino-Amerikano. Pagkatapos ihayag ang digmaan laban sa Estados Unidos noong 1902, ipinagpatuloy ni Sakay ang paglaban at ang sumunod na taon ay naging Pangulo ng Republikang Tagalog.[1]

Pagkabata at Katipunan

Tinatayang ipinanganak si Sakay sa pagitan ng 1870 at 1878 sa Daang Tabora, Tondo.[2] Unang nagtrabaho si Sakay bilang baguhagsikang Pilipino.[2] Noong 1899, ipinagpatuloy niya ang pagsagupa para sa kalayaan ng Pilipinas laban sa Estados Unidos. Noong unang bahagi ng Digmaang Pilipino-Amerikano, nakulong siya dahil sa sedisyon o pagsusulsol laban sa pamahalaan, at kinalaunan ay pinalaya bilang bahagi ng amnestiya.[3]

Pagkatapos ng digmaan

Isa si Sakay sa mga nagtatag ng Partido Nacionalista (walang kaugnayan sa kasalukuyang Nacionalista Party na naitatag noong 1907), na naglalayong makamtan ang kalayaan ng Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng legal na pamamaraan. Umapela ang partido sa Philippine Commission, subalit ipinasa ng komisyon ang SedtionLaw, na nagbabawal sa lahat ng uri ng propaganda na nagtataguyod ng kalayaan.[4][5] Dahil dito, muling lumaban si Sakay.[2]
