Ужички град је средњовековна тврђава подигнута највероватније у другој половини XIV века од велможа Војислава и Алтомана Војиновића као главно седиште ове властелинске породице да би штитила Ужице и каравански пут који је долином Ђетиње повезивао Моравску долину са Босном, Хумом и обалом Јадранског мора, првенствено Дубровачком републиком. Смештена је на високој оштрој стени која се стрмо спушта у Ђетињу која је са три стране окружује и онемогућава прилаз. Најпознатија епизода у њеној историји одиграла се новембра 1373. године када су удружене снаге кнеза Лазара (1371—1389) и бана Твртка (1353—1391) потпомогнуте одредима краља Мађарске Лајоша I (1342—1382) које је предводио мачвански бан Никола Горјански Старији у њој опселе великог жупана Николу Алтомановића (1366—1373). После краће опсаде, уз помоћ топова и опсадних справа, Никола се предао и ту је по наредби Стефана Мусића (уз Лазареву прећутну сагласност) ослепљен, а његове земље су међу собом разделили победници. Тврђава је коначно напуштена крајем 1862. године са још 6 других када ју је према споразуму са кнезом Михаилом (1839—1842, 1860—1868) напустила османлијска војна посада, после чега је, сходно одредбама тог уговора, крајем зиме 1863. године дигнута у ваздух и онеспособљена за даљу војну употребу. Данас су од утврде остали остаци бедема, кула и зграда у висини од око један метар (попут Сокола) на колико су сведени разарањем 1863. године, али се и поред тога може наслутити некадашњи изглед утврде. Она је данас једна од туристичких атракција Ужица.
