Buk (rod)

Listy orientálneho buka

Buk (lat. Fagus) je rod drevín z čeľade bukovité.

Rastie v miernom pásme Európy, Ázie a Severnej Ameriky. Plod je malá 10 – 15 mm dlhá jedlá tzv. bukvica, umiestnená vo dvojici v tzv. čiaške. Listy sú 5 – 15 cm dlhé a 4 – 10 cm široké. Kvety sú malé jednopohlavné.

Na Slovensku je pôvodný len buk lesnýn(Fagus sylvatica).

V minulosti sa za príbuzné s bukmi považovali pabuky (Nothofagus), ktoré však dnes zaraďujeme dokonca do samostatnej čeľade pabukovité.
