Balaenoidea

Veľryba malá

Balaenoidea je nadčeľaď kosticovcov s jedinou čeľaďou Neobalaenidae, jediným rodom Caperea (po slovensky veľryba) a jediným druhom veľryba malá alebo veľryba trpasličia[1] (Caperea marginata Gray 1846; staršie synonymá: Balaena (Caperea) antipodarum, Neobalaena marginata). V niektorých (starších) systémoch sa čeľaď Neobalaenidae zaraďuje do čeľade veľrybovité (Balaenidae).

Najnovšie je u viacerých autorov obsah čeľade Neobalaenidae presunutý do čeľade Cetotheriidae.[2]

Veľryba trpasličia žije v Južnom oceáne, je dlhá 4 až 6,5 m a váži 3 000 až 3 500 kg.
