Nikolas Konrad Veratschnig (born 24 January 2003 in Villach, Austria) is an Austrian footballer. He plays as defender for FC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Career

Veratschnig began his career at SV Feldkirchen. For the 2017/18 season, he moved to the Wolfsberger AC academy. He made his debut for Wolfsberg's second team in the Regionalliga in October 2020. During the 2020/21 season, he made two Regionalliga appearances before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. In the 2021/22 season, he played twelve matches for WAC II before the winter break. In December 2021, he signed a professional contract running until June 2024 and was promoted to the first-team squad. [1]

Veratschnig made his Bundesliga debut in February 2022, coming on as a substitute for Matthäus Taferner in the 77th minute against FK Austria Wien. He made 64 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsberg, scoring one goal.

For the 2024/25 season, he moved to Germany to join Bundesliga side 1. FSV Mainz 05. [2] For the 2026/27 season, Veratschnig returned to Austria and joined FC Red Bull Salzburg. [3]

International

Veratschnig made a single appearance for the Austrian U-18 team in June 2021. He made his debut for the U-19 team against Turkey in September 2021. He participated in the 2022 European Championship with the U-19 squad. He played in all four matches. He made his debut for the U-21 team against Montenegro in September 2022. In May 2025, he was called up to the senior national team squad for the first time. [4]
