Kannazuki (神無月) also known as Jūgatsu (10月, lit: tenth month) is the tenth month of the Japanese Lunisolar Calendar and other East Asian Lunisolar calendars.[1] In folklore people say that during this month the gods all go to Izumo Province.[2] So the name means "month without gods"[3][2][4] in most of Japan, but in Izumo it is called Kamiarizuki or the month with gods.[2][4][5][6]

The name used to mean "month of gods" but people later read it as meaning "month without gods".

In folklore Ebisu is the only god who does not go to Izumo. He takes care of Japan during this time. Lots of Ebisu festivals happen during this month.[7]

The month sometimes has 30 days and sometimes has 29 days depending on the moon.
