Jacob Bryson (born November 18, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He currently plays for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Buffalo Sabres.
Career
Before playing in the NHL, Bryson played one season with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and three years with the Providence Friars of Hockey East. He had a successful time with his teams. With the Lancers, he was named to the USHL All-Rookie First Team.[1] With the Friars, he won the Len Ceglarski Award. He was also named as a Division I New England All-Star, a Hockey East First Team Hockey All-Star, an AHCA Second-Team All-American, and Hockey East Second All-Star.[2][3]
He was drafted 99th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2017 NHL entry draft.[4] On April 15, 2019, Bryson signed a three-year entry-level contract to join the Sabres.[5] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Rochester Americans.
On February 23, 2021, the Sabres called him up and Bryson made his NHL debut in a 4–1 win against the New Jersey Devils.[6] On October 18, 2019, Bryson scored his first NHL goal against Semyon Varlamov in a 5–2 loss against the New York Islanders.[7] On July 10, 2022, Bryson signed a two-year, $3.7 million contract to stay with the Sabres.[8] On July 1, 2024, Bryson signed a one-year, $900,000 contract to stay with the Sabres.[9]
On March 6, 2026, the Sabres traded Bryson along with Isak Rosén, a 2026 conditional fourth-round draft pick, and a 2027 second-round draft pick to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Luke Schenn and Logan Stanley.[10]
