The Green Left (Danish: Socialistisk Folkeparti, 'Socialist People's Party', SF) is a democratic socialist and green political party in Denmark. Until 2022, it was known as the Socialist People's Party in English before it adopted its current name. It was founded in 1959 by former Communist Party leader Aksel Larsen who was removed following his criticism of the Soviet decision to get involved in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.[1] Larsen positioned the party between social democracy and communism, combining respect for democratic norms and socialism.
The party's current platform is based on both democratic socialism and green politics. It promotes feminism, human rights, rights of minorities, democracy and globalisation based on solidarity.[2] It is also a strong supporter of Palestine. SF is a member of the European Green Party. The party was considered to be highly Eurosceptic before shifting towards a more pro-European platform in the early 2000s.
SF has been led by Pia Olsen Dyhr since 2014 and has served in government with the Social Democrats, Moderates and Social Liberals since 2026.[3]
