The Moderates (Danish: Moderaterne) is a liberal political party in Denmark founded in 2022 by former Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
Rasmussen announced the party's launch and name in June 2021. He stated that the party's name was inspired by the Swedish Moderate Party and comparisons have been made to the fictional party of the same name led by Birgitte Nyborg in the political drama Borgen.[1][2]
In the 2022 general election, the party came third with 9.3% of the vote, winning 16 seats in the Folketing. It has since been in a coalition government with the Social Democrats and Venstre with Rasmussen serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs.[3][4]
Ideology
The party describes itself as centrist and is not aligned with either bloc in Danish politics.[5]
