The County of Durango (Basque: Durangoko Merinaldea), also called the Land of Durango and Merindad of Durango, was the political administration of the territory that is now Durangaldea. This is in the Basque region of Biscay. The political administration has all towns and elizates that is in this territory. The elizates were led by the Foral law. All towns had their own laws. The county of Durango was a vassal state in the Kingdom of Pamplona (later, Navarre). In the 13th century it became a part of the Lordship of Biscay.[1] It has been part of Biscay since then. Its capital city was the town of Durango.
