Bruno Kiggundu (born 21 July 1992), also known by stage name Bruno K, is a Ugandan singer, guitarist, actor, and social activist.[3][4][5]

He became famous after coming second in the Airtel Trace Music Stars competition. He later grew more popular with songs like Faridah, One for the Road, and Omuwala. People know Bruno for his soft singing voice, his guitar playing, and his songs that tell stories from his own life.[6][7]

Early life and education

Bruno K was born on July 21, 1992, in Namulonge, Wakiso District, Uganda. His parents are Mr. Donovan Kiggundu and Mrs. Cissy Kasozi. He has two sisters and is the only boy. He went to Kitante Primary School and Kazinga Parents School. Later, he studied at Seroma Christian High School and then Naggalama SS for O-Level and A-Level. After school, he joined Ndejje University to study Journalism and Mass Communication, where he also started his music.[8][6]

Music

When he was in school, Bruno took part in music, dance, and drama. At university, he started doing music seriously after making a band called Pearl Music with four friends. Later, MC Kats saw him singing at Centenary Park and told him to join the Airtel Trace Music Stars competition. Bruno came second in the Uganda contest, and this was the beginning of his music career.[9]

In 2015, Bruno brought out his first big song called Where You Been At. After that, he sang other popular songs like One for the Road, Faridah, Omuwala, and Leero Mbaga. People liked him because he plays the guitar well and sings with strong feelings. In 2020, he joined Black Market Records, but later they had problems with the contract, and this caused a court case.[10][11][12]

In 2025, the Ugandan High Court ordered the label to pay Bruno UGX 130 million. The court said the label had used his songs without respect for his rights and kept money that was meant for him.[13][14]

He later joined Source Management with the help of Manager Roger to grow his music career again. He is still making songs and has said he will bring out a reggae EP and work with other artists.[15][16]

Playing Roles

In 2023, Bruno started acting. He got a role in a Ugandan TV show called Junior Drama Club, made by Allan Manzi and Nisha Kalema.[17] He expressed optimism about growing his fan base and diversifying his income through acting.[18][19]

Type of music and what inspires him

Bruno K’s music mixes Afrobeat, R&B, and soul, and he often uses the guitar. His songs talk about love, heartbreak, life in society, and his own experiences. His Christian faith and personal struggles inspire most of his music.[20][21]

His life outside Music

Bruno K is a born-again Christian. He became a Christian during a hard time in his life after a painful breakup. He goes to Phaneroo Fellowship often and says Apostle Grace Lubega helped him find spiritual healing.[22]

He is a father of three children. His daughter Briella was born to his partner, Racheal Nasasira, who died from skin cancer in 2021.[23][24] Bruno faced public scrutiny over her death but denied allegations of neglect, clarifying that her family was well-off and had provided adequate medical care.[25][26]

Bruno has openly talked about his past problems. He survived COVID-19, went through bad relationships, and faced challenges in his music career. He now uses his voice to talk about men’s rights, emotional abuse, and mental health.[27][6]

Helping others

In 2021, Bruno K was praised for helping two boys who were shamed on TV because of body smell during a talent show. He looked for them, gave them help, and promised to guide them in life.[28]

Public debate and Disputes

Bruno had a public fight with Jalia Nassolo, a businesswoman in the US, about a missed music video shoot. Bruno said it was because of poor communication and delays, but she said he acted unprofessional. The issue caused talk about how artists and clients work together.[29]

He also had problems with Black Market Records about unfair contracts, music rights, and his songs being removed from YouTube. He went to court many times and won, proving that his music belongs to him.[10][30]
