Milorad Popović (Gacko, 1913 — Kozara, 6. april 1945) je bio poručnik u Kraljevoj gardi pre rata i četnički komandant Nevesinjskog korpusa Jugoslovenske vojske u Otadžbini u II svetskom ratu.

Tokom drugog svetkog rata bio je deo kvislinških jedinica fašističke Italije.

Biografija

Rođen 1913. godine u Gacku u Hercegovini od oca Marka i majke Jovane. Posle osnovne škole i šest razreda gimnazije, završio je Nižu školu Vojne akademije u Beogradu, u 59. klasi. Bio je poručnik u Kraljevoj gardi u vojsci Kraljevine Jugoslavije.

Drugi svetski rat

Aprilski rat ga je zatekao u Beogradu. Uspeo je da po slomu Vojske Jugoslavije izbegne zarobljeništvo i probije se do Gacka. U Hercegovini organizuje otpor ustašama, jedan je od vođa ustanka u NDH 1941. godine. Osnivač je i komandant Gatačke vojno-četničke brigade. General Dragoljub Mihailović je 1942. godine, stigao u Hercegovinu i izvršio smotru četničkih jedinica, postavio je Milorada Popovića za komandanta Nevesinjskog korpusa. Popović je učestvovao u mnogobrojnim borbama protiv ustaša i komunista na prostoru Crne Gore, Bosne, Hercegovine, Like i Dalmacije.

Oktobra 1942. godine, tokom osovinske Operacije Alfa, Popovićevi četnici su u okviru kvislinških jedinica MVAC učestvovali u masovnom pokolju u Prozoru nad lokalnim stanovništvom koje je podržavalo partizane. O Popovićevom učešću govori italijanski kapetan Viđak (ital. Vigiac) u svom izveštaju od 18. oktobra 1942:

Brigada Gacko pod komandom potporučnika Festini potpomognutog od srpskog poručnika Popović Milorada dobila je naređenje da se sjedini sa brigadom Bileće, pod komandom poručnika Ogrizen, potpomognut od srpskog oficira Kureš Miloša.

Čitava zona uzduž maršrute odavno je pod okupacijom partizana; domaćini su dobrim delom pobegli i tako dokazali da se civilno stanovništvo sa njima saživelo; zato su sela i kuće potpuno uništene.

Od 6. do 10. oktobra nađeno je preko 700 mrtvih među borcima i stanovništvom raznih sela koji su davali otpor. (...)

Izdržavajući svakovrsne teškoće i napore, na vrlo teškom terenu, antikomunističke kolone doline Drežnice, vođene od italijanskih oficira i podoficira dale su dokaze i ovoga puta njihove izdržljivosti, njihovog poleta, njihove agresivnosti i njihove saradnje sa italijanskom vojskom u borbi protiv zajedničkog neprijatelja: komunista.[1]

Kapetan Milorad Popović se pominje u izvještaju od 8. decembra 1943. godine poslatom Drugoj oklopnoj armiji iz 5. SS brdskog korpusa:

5.SS brd. kor. za PzAOK 2 (8.12.43): Četnički kapetan Popović javlja da je narod u ist. Hercegovini popljačkan i na rubu gladi; raspituje se za mogućnost slanja jedne deputacije Nediću i Neubacheru.[2]

Popović je unapređen od Mihailovića i odlikovan najvećim vojnim odlikovanjem: Belim Orlom sa mačevima i Karađorđevom zvezdom. Poginuo je u borbama sa ustašama kod Lijevča polja 6. aprila 1945.
