Eufimije I Carigradski

Eufimije I Sinkel (grčki: Πατριάρχης Ευθύμιος Α΄; Izaurija, 834/835 - 5. august 917) bio je patrijarh Carigrada od 907. do 12. maja 912.

Bio je skromni monah, koji je podržavao patrijarha Ignatija, potom Fotija, prije nego što je postao ispovjednik bizantskog cara Lava VI Mudrog. Patrijarh Nikola Mistik ga je imenovao svojim nasljednikom (latinski: syncellus) zbog čega je i dobio svoj nadimak.

Sa svojim mentorom je u sukob došao zahvaljujući ljubavnoj vezi cara sa Zojom Karbonopsinom. Lav, koji je nadživio svoje tri prethodne supruge bez da je dobio muškog nasljednika, dobio je sina sa Zojom te se sa njom htio oženiti. Nikola Mistik se tome protivio iz teoloških razloga, smatrajući da četvrti brak predstavlja blud i poligamiju. Lavov i Zojin sin je krajem 906. kršten od strane Eufimija. Kada je nešto kasnije jedan od svećenika vjenčao Lava i Zoju, a Zoja nakon toga dobila titulu augusta, Nikola je nastojao ekskomunicirati cara. Lav je na to reagirao tako da je 907. Nikolu smijenio, koristeći kao izgovor njegovu navodnu podršku pobuni Andronika Duke.

Eufimije je tada stupio na Nikolino mjesto. Patrijarhom je ostao sve do Lavove smrti 12. maja 912. Tada je prijestolje preuzeo Lavov brat Aleksandar koji je odmah smijenio Eufimija i na njegovo mjesto vratio Nikolu. Prilikom smjene su Aleksandrovi vojnici pretukli Eufimija i slomili mu zube; pri tome mu je život spasio plemić po imenu Petronas. Eufimije je otišao u manastir gdje je ostao do kraja života.
