Aristokracija

Aristokracija ili aristokratija (grč. ἀρıστοϰρατία: vladavina najboljih, od ἄριστος: najbolji + κρατείν: vladati), vladavina plemstva ili privilegiranog višeg staleža i, s druge strane, naziv za nasljedni privilegirani stalež ili plemstvo, odn. gospodstvo, velikaše.

U širem značenju riječi aristokracija misli se na bogatiji sloj društva, na obitelj i nasljednike već dokazanih vlastodržaca, te na plemstvo koje je ostvarilo različite beneficije u društvu recimo kroz junaštvo u ratovima njihovih prednika.

Pripadnici aristokracije ne samo da imaju veća prava nego drugi ljudi, već tada imaju i veće obaveze da se vladaju pristojno, plemenito, uzvišeno i darežljivo. Oni su često bili stupovi društva, te ako je njihovo vladanje bilo uzvišeno, tada je i društvo u cjelini bilo prosperitetno. Vrijedi i obratno.
