11. dodjela Oscara je održana 23. februara 1939. u Hotelu Biltmore u Los Angelesu. Na njoj je losanđeleska Akademija odala priznanje najboljim filmskim ostvarenjima premijerno prikazanim u periodu od 1. januara do 31. decembra 1938. godine.

Bila je prva ceremonija koja nije imala službenog voditelja, kao i prva na kojoj je neki strani film (odnosno koje nije na engleskom) bio nominiran za glavnu nagradu (Renoirova Velika iluzija).

Predstavljala je također i prvi od dva slučaja kada su tri od četiri pobjednika u glumačkim kategorijama bili raniji pobjednici (sljedeći put će se to dogoditi na 67. dodjeli 1994. godine). Spencer Tracy je također postao prvi glumac koji je osvojio Oscara dva puta zaredom (sljedeći put će to uspjeti tek Tom Hanksu, također 1994. godine).
