Островные игры

Островные игры (англ. Island Games) — мультиспортивное соревнование, проводящееся один раз в 2 года.

Организовывает эти соревнования Международная ассоциация Островных игр. В Играх участвуют национальные команды различных островов и малых территорий, как самостоятельных, так и входящих в состав других стран.

Первые Островные игры прошли в 1985 году на острове Мэн как часть «Международного года спорта на острове Мэн».

Члены Международной ассоциации Островных игр:

Ранее в Играх также принимали участие Мальта (в 1985 и 1987) и Исландия (7 раз: с 1985 до 1997). По состоянию на 2009 год в списке членов МАОИ эти сборные уже не числятся[1]). Правительство острова Принца Эдуарда отказалось финансировать сборную для участия в Островных играх 2009 года и последующих, что стало причиной выхода сборной из МАОИ[2]. Сборная участвовала в Играх 7 раз: 1991, 1993, 1999—2007.
