Notopalaeognathae — клада бескилевых птиц, включающая в себя всех представителей инфракласса, кроме самой базальной группы — страусов[1]. Точные взаимоотношения этой группы были выяснены лишь недавно, поскольку[уточнить] тинаму и моа имели общего предка[2][3][4][5] а киви более близко родственны эму и казуарам.[4] Вымершие слоновые птицы с Мадагаскара недавно были идентифицированы как ближайшие родственники киви.[4] Нанду являются либо самой базальной ветвью Notopalaeognathae, либо сестринской группой Novaeratitae.[1]
