Латимериевые[2] (лат. Latimeriidae) — единственное современное семейство в отряде целакантообразных — древней ветви лопастепёрых рыб. Включает два ныне живущих вида из рода латимерий (Latimeria), живущих на большой глубине у побережья восточной Африки и в восточно-центральных водах Индонезии. Несколько ископаемых родов известных из мезозойских отложений Европы, Среднего Востока и юго-востока Соединённых Штатов, относящихся к триасовому периоду[3][4][5].

Считается, что латимериевые всегда были исключительно морской группой. Эти рыбы, скорее всего, появились на западе океана Тетис, поскольку многие из древнейших видов найдены на территории, которую когда-то покрывали его воды[6]. Крупнейший представитель семейства — позднемеловой Megalocoelacanthus, который мог достигать 4,5 м в длину[7]. Латимериевые считаются сестринской группой мавсониевых (Mawsoniidae) — вымершему семейству целакантообразных, которые дожили до позднего мела и обитали как в пресных, так и в морских водах. Масониевые включают несколько очень крупных видов. Оба семейства образуют подотряд Latimerioidei[6][8].
