Tagetes é um gênero de 56 espécies[1] de plantas principalmente herbáceas anuais e perenes da família do girassol (Asteraceae ou Compositae). É popularmente conhecida em Portugal como cravo-de-tunes, cravo-túnico[2], cravo-de-burro (não confundir com a Matthiola maderensis, ou com a Cirsium welwitschii, que também dão pelo nome de «cravo-de-burro»)[3], no Brasil como flor-dos-mortos e ainda como cravo-amarelo, cravo-africano, cravo-da-índia e rosa-da-índia[4]. Há regiões, tanto no Brasil, como em Portugal, em que dá pelo nome de cravo-de-defunto.[2]

O gênero é nativo da América do Norte e sul, mas algumas espécies se naturalizaram ao redor do mundo. Suas flores são alaranjadas, amarelas ou vermelhas, a maioria com odor muito forte.[5]
