Joseph-Claude-Anthelme Récamier (Cressin-Rochefort, Ain, 6 de novembro de 1774 – 28 de junho de 1852) foi o fundador indiscutível da cirurgia ginecológica moderna, também havia se destacado no campo da oncologia. Em particular, ele realizou a primeira histerectomia vaginal bem sucedida para o câncer; ele realizou uma extensa pesquisa sobre o processo metastático câncer e ele foi o proponente de um método de tratamento de câncer por compressão.[1]

Bibliografia

Nasceu em Cressin-Rochefort, Ain. Na maior parte de sua carreira profissional foi associado com o Hôtel-Dieu de Paris, onde em 1806 se tornou médico chefe. Também foi professor do Collège de França e membro da Faculté de Médecine.[2]

Em 1821 Recamier praticou uma retirada da mama com uma paciente sob sonambulismo mesmérico, após realizar sozinho a aplicação do magnetismo animal.[1]

Ainda em 1821, sob a orientação de Joseph Récamier, Henri-Marie Husson coordenou juntamente com Alexandre Bertrand (1795-1831) experiências relacionadas ao magnetismo, desenvolvidas pelo magnetizador Barão du Potet e Thierry Robouam, na presença de trinta outros médicos.[3]

Récamier é creditado com a popularização de vários instrumentos em medicina ginecológica, incluindo a cureta, vaginal espéculo e o uterino som.

Em seu tratado de 1829, Recherches sur le traitement du câncer , cunhou o termo "metástase" como uma definição para a propagação de cancro.[4]

"A operação de Récamier" é um termo utilizado para curetagem do útero[5] também chamado de histerectomia por via vaginal.
