Wacław Iwaszkiewicz (ur. 3 grudnia 1894 w Wilnie[1], zm. 1940 w Katyniu – podpułkownik piechoty Wojska Polskiego, ofiara zbrodni katyńskiej.

Życiorys

Wacław Iwaszkiewicz urodził się 3 grudnia 1894 roku w Wilnie, w rodzinie Jana i Marii z Leszczewskich[2].

Powołany do armii rosyjskiej w 1915 r. Walczył na froncie, awansował do stopnia podkapitana. W 1917 r. służył w polskim pułku strzeleckim im. Bartosza Głowackiego. Pułk ten zabezpieczał skarby narodu polskiego, m.in. obraz Bitwa pod Grunwaldem. Był żołnierzem I Korpusu Polskiego w Rosji. Śledzony przez WCzK w kwietniu 1918 został aresztowany i uwięziony na Łubiance. Po powrocie do kraju w 1919 r. wstąpił do WP i w szeregach 41 pułku piechoty walczył z bolszewikami pod Suwałkami, Sejnami, Lidą, Mińskiem, na Wołyniu, pod Kijowem.

W dniu 3 maja 1922 r. został zweryfikowany w stopniu kapitana ze starszeństwem z dniem 1 czerwca 1919 r. W 1924 r. zajmował 1052. lokatę w korpusie oficerów piechoty. W tym samym roku pełnił służbę w Komendzie Obszaru Warownego „Wilno” na stanowisku oficera sztabowego, pozostając oficerem nadetatowym 41 pp w Suwałkach[3]. W dniu 18 lutego 1928 r. awansował do stopnia majora ze starszeństwem z dniem 1 stycznia 1928 roku i 168. lokatą w korpusie oficerów piechoty. 26 kwietnia 1928 roku został przeniesiony do 17 pułku piechoty w Rzeszowie na stanowisko oficera sztabowego pułku[4][5][6]. W grudniu 1932 roku został przeniesiony do 13 pułku piechoty w Pułtusku na stanowisko kwatermistrza[7]. 19 marca 1939 r. awansował do stopnia podpułkownika.

Podczas kampanii wrześniowej dowodził III batalionem 3 pułku Strzelców Podhalańskich. W czasie walk dostał się do niewoli radzieckiej. Przebywał w obozie w Kozielsku. Wiosną 1940 roku został zamordowany przez funkcjonariuszy NKWD w Katyniu i tam pogrzebany. Od dnia 28 lipca 2000 roku spoczywa na Polskim Cmentarzu Wojennym w Katyniu.

W dniu 5 października 2007 roku minister obrony narodowej mianował go pośmiertnie do stopnia pułkownika[8]. Awans został ogłoszony w dniu 9 listopada 2007 roku, w Warszawie, w trakcie uroczystości „Katyń Pamiętamy – Uczcijmy Pamięć Bohaterów”.
