Megapodius – rodzaj ptaków z rodziny nogali (Megapodiidae).

Zasięg występowania

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Azji Południowo-Wschodniej, Australii i Oceanii^[6].

Morfologia

Długość ciała 28–47 cm; masa ciała 275–1200 g (samice są z reguły cięższe od samców)^[7].

Systematyka

Etymologia

Megapodius: gr. μεγας megas, μεγαλη megalē – duży; ποδιον podion – stópka, od zdrobnienia πους pous, ποδος podos – stopa^[8].
Alecthelia: gr. αλεκτωρ alektōr, αλεκτορος alektoros „kogucik”; ἡλιος hēlios „słońce” (tj. równikowy, tropikalny)^[9]. Gatunek typowy: Alecthelia urvilii Lesson, 1826 (= Megapodius freycinet Gaimard, 1823).
Amelous: gr. αμελης amelēs „niedbały”, od αμελεω ameleō „być zaniedbanym” (w nawiązaniu do wytartego ogona)^[10]. Nowa nazwa dla Alecthelia.
Megathelia: gr. μεγας megas, μεγαλη megalē „duży”; θηλυς thēlus, θηλεια thēleia „samica”^[11]. Gatunek typowy: Megapodius tumulus Gould, 1842 (= Megapodius reinwardt C. Dumont, 1823).
