Martyna Majok (ur. 1985[5] w Bytomiu) – polsko-amerykańska dramatopisarka[6], laureatka nagrody Pulitzera w dziedzinie dramatu w 2018 roku.

Życiorys

Wraz z rodziną wyjechała do Stanów Zjednoczonych w 1990[5] w wieku 5 lat[4][7]. Jej matka pracowała w fabryce, a ojczym był pracownikiem budowlanym[2]. Dorastała w Kearny[8] i Newark[3] w stanie New Jersey[2] oraz w Chicago[1]. Pierwszy raz była w teatrze w wieku 17 lat; poszła wówczas na spektakl "Kabaret" do klubu Studio 54 w Nowym Jorku[8].

W młodości pracowała w barach[9]. Ukończyła studia na Uniwersytecie Chicagowskim z tytułem licencjata (BA) w 2007 roku[5], studia na Uniwersytecie Yale[2] (Yale School of Drama[8]) z tytułem magistra (MFA) w 2012[5]; studiowała ponadto w Juilliard School[3][10].

Przyznano jej m.in. następujące nagrody: Charles MacArthur Award[11], The Lanford Wilson Award, Davic Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize[4], The Dramatists Guild’s Lanford Wilson Award[1], czy nagrodę Greenfield jako pierwszej kobiecie w historii tego wyróżnienia[11]. W 2018 otrzymała nagrodę Pulitzera w dziedzinie dramatu za sztukę "Cost of Living"[7][4][6][12], której prapremiera odbyła się w 2016 r. w Williamstown w stanie Massachusetts, a polska premiera w 2019 r. w Teatrze Śląskim w Katowicach. Inscenizacja "Cost of Living" zrealizowana na Broadwayu przyniosła jej nominację do nagrody Tony[9].

Mieszka w Nowym Jorku, jej mężem jest aktor Josiah Bania[8].
