Canton francés

En França, un canton es una division administrativa, ara estatistica e electorala. Cada arrondiment departamental es subdevesit en cantons.

Istòria

Los cantons foguèron creats en 1790, al meteis temps que los departaments, pel Comitat de Division del territòri. Foguèron originalament recampats en districtes.

En junh de 1793, son suprimits per la Convencion.

Son restaurats en 1795, quand los districtes son suprimits.

En 1800, son restacats a un arrondiment.

Quand los creèron en 1790, los cantons èran plan mai nombroses que uèi (entre 40 e 60 segon los departaments). Lor nombre foguèt redusit drasticament (entre 30 et 50) per la lei del 8 de pluviôse de l'an IX (28 de genièr de 1801) intitulada « lei portant reduccion del nombre de justícias de patz ». Los primièrs prefèctes nomenats pel govèrn foguèron tenguts d’establir dins lor departament la reparticion de las comunas dins cada canton novèlament establit. Aquestas listas departamentalas, un còp aprovadas pel govèrn, foguèron publicadas al Bulletin de las Leis dins las annadas 1801-1802 e constituisson la basa de la division administrativa de França en cantons qu'es encara en plaça uèi.

Dempuèi 1800, de cantons tròp pauc poblats son estats suprimits, mentre que de cantons novèls son estats creats dins cèrtas zonas qu'an conegut una creissença demografica fòrta, principalament de zonas urbanas. Al total, lor nombre a sensiblament aumentat.

La refòrma de las collectivitats votada en novembre de 2010 e esmendada en 2013 prevei una modificacion del nombre e de la delimitacion dels cantons que serviràn a partir de 2015 a elegir los conselhièrs departamentals (nom novèl del conselh general):

  • dins las collectivitats unicas (Maiòta e lèu Martinica e Guaiana) los cantons son las circonscripcions electoralas per l'amassada unica que servís a l'encòp de conselh departamental e regional
  • dins la metropòli de Lion (a partir del 1èr de genièr de 2015) los cantons son suprimits (lo primièr nivèl jos la collectivitat es la comuna o l'arrondiment per Lion)
  • dins los autres departaments, e doncas dins totes los departaments occitans, lo nombre de canton es reduch a la mitat del nombre actual, de còps augmentada d'un per gardar un nombre impar de cantons. La refòrma es operacionala per las eleccions de 2015 de la data cambiadissa.

Estatisticas

Lo nombre de cantons es variable d'un departament a l'autre (lo Territòri de Belfòrt n'a 15, lo Nòrd 79). Al total, existissiá 4039 cantons en França en 2004, dont 156 dins los departaments d'otramar. L'illa de Maiòta, dont l'administracion territoriala es pròcha de la dels departaments, es tanben devesida en 19 cantons.
