Rathaus Schöneberg ble oppført 1911–1914 av arkitektene Peter Jürgensen og Jürgen Bachmann som rådhus for Schöneberg som da var en selvstendig by. Schöneberg er nå en del av bydelen Tempelhof-Schöneberg i Berlin.

I 1920 ble Schöneberg innlemmet i bystaten Berlin. Under delingen av Berlin under den kalde krigen ble Rathaus Schöneberg, ettersom det gamle bysenteret havnet i østsonen, det politiske midtpunkt i det vestlige Berlin; både delstatens parlament og regjeringen hadde sitt sete her.

I rådhustårnet henger Frihetsklokken, som var en gave til Berlins innbyggere fra millioner av amerikanere og symboliserer kampen for frihet og mot kommunisme i Europa. Det ringes med klokken fra tårnet hver dag klokken 12. Klokkeringingen sendes også på radio hver søndag, opprinnelig av RIAS (amerikansk radio i Berlin) og etter den kalde krigen av Deutschlandradio Kultur.

Foran rådhuset holdt USAs president John F. Kennedy sin berømte tale «Ich bin ein Berliner» den 26. juni 1963. Etter at Kennedy ble myrdet senere samme år ble plassen foran rådhuset omdøpt til John-F.-Kennedy-Platz.

Den 24. september 1991 fant det siste senatsmøtet sted i rådhuset, før senatet flyttet til Berliner Rathaus, og 25. mars 1993 møttes for siste gang Berlins parlament i Schöneberg før parlamentet flyttet sitt sete til Preußischer Landtag.
