Osebergvogna
«Osebergvogna» og «Osebergskipet» regnes som de mest spektakulære gjenstandene fra Osebergfunnet, gravgavene som fulgte to kvinner fra vikingtida som ble hauglagt i Vestfold i år 834 og gravd opp i 1904.

«Osebergvogna» er ei to meter lang vogn av tre med rike utskjæringer som var en av gravgavene i Osebergfunnet, de mange gjenstandene og levningene etter en vikingbegravelse av to kvinner i Vestfold i år 834.[1] Vogna ble funnet i Oseberghaugen utafor Tønsberg og regnes blant det flotteste av gravgavene, bare overtruffet av «Osebergskipet» der kvinnene hadde blitt lagt i et teltforma gravkammer. Den både staselige og gåtefulle vogna står utstilt på Vikingskiphuset på Bygdøy i Oslo.

Oppbygging, utskjæringer og bruk

Vognkarmen er av eik og har rike utskjæringer med menneske- og dyrefigurer.[2]

«Osebergvogna» er den eldste bevarte vogna av nordisk type.[3] Den består av et nyere understell av bøk med bukker som er tilpassa ei eldre vognkasse lagd av eikeplanker som er klinkbygd med jernnagler som bordgangene i en båt. Blant de andre delene er drag av ask.[4] Vogna er én meter brei og to meter lang.

Den vanntette vognkassa har rund bunn og sider og gavler utsmykka med rike utskjæringer. Kattene på bilderelieffene bak på vogna kan forestille vognkattene til fruktbarhetgudinna Frøya, ormemotivet på forsida av karmen viser kanskje Gunnar Gjukesson i kong Atles ormegård etter drapet på Sigurd Fåvnesbane.[2][5]

Det overdådige kjøretøyet har trolig vært brukt som seremoniell prosesjonsvogn og ikke hatt praktisk nytte som arbeidsredskap for frakte gods.[6]«Osebergvogna» har blitt trukket av to hester.[trenger referanse]
