Operasjonsgruppesjef

Operasjonsgruppesjef (ofte forkortet opsgruppesjef) er leder for en luftvings flyoperasjoner. Posisjonen innehas typisk av en oberstløytnant.

Rollen som operasjonsgruppesjef (Wing Commander (Flying) eller Wing Leader) oppsto i Royal Air Force under andre verdenskrig, da overordnede jagerflygere, som regel med grad av wing commander eller oberstløytnant, fikk ansvar for koordinering av operasjoner som involverte flere skvadroner. I begynnelsen var det tre skvadroner, seinere kunne det bli opptil fem i en slik ving. Tidligere var slike operasjoner blitt ledet av eldste eller mest erfarne sjef i skvadronene som var involvert.[1][2]

Opsgruppesjefer fikk lov til å merke flyene med initialene sine.
