Neofron

Neofron fra Sikyon (gresk: Νεόφρων, -ονος) var en av de mest profilerte dramatikerne i antikkens Hellas som det er tilskrevet et hundre og tyve stykker. Av hans omfattende forfatterskap er gjenstår det kun ett stykke, tragedien Medeia og av dette stykket er det kun bevart noen få fragmenter.

Det er sagt at Evripides benyttet Neofrons tragedie som utgangspunkt for sin egen tragedie av samme innhold, og med samme tittel, Medeia, men moderne forskning er delt i synet på hvilke av dramatikerne som var først ute. Neofron levde antagelig i den andre halvparten av 400-tallet f.Kr. og var således grovt sett en samtidig med Evripides. Hans hjemby var Sikyon i det nordlige Peloponnes mellom Korint og Akhaia.

Den senere bysantinske encyklopedi Suda forteller at Neofron introduserte i sine stykker tortur av slaver. I henhold til kanoner av dramatiske tekster hadde slikt ikke blitt framført direkte på scenen tidligere, men kun referert til ved hjelp av sendebud.
