Kilian Stobæus (den eldre) (født 6. februar 1690 i Vinslöv, død 17. februar 1742 i Lund) var en svensk naturforsker, lege og historiker.

Liv og virke

Bakgrunn

Han var sønn av akademirantmesteren Nils Stobæus. Selv om Stobæus ble født i Skåne vokste han opp hos en onkel i Göteborg.

I 1709 ble han student i Lund og etter å ha studert der ble han i doktor i medisin i 1721.

Karriere

I 1724 ble han stadslege i Göteborg, men dro tilbake til Lund året etter. I 1728 ble Stobæus professor i Philosophia naturalis et physica experimentalis (naturhistorie og fysikk), og fra 1732 ble han professor i historie.

Stobæus ble betegnet som fremstående, både som lærer, forfatter og samler. Han oppnådde å få stor allmenn respekt ved universitetet. Stobæus lot mange lovende studenter, deriblant den unge Carl von Linné, å få bo kostnadsfritt i hans privatbolig i Lund. Av andre markante studenter under Stobæus var Nils Rosén von Rosenstein og Sven Lagerbring. Innenfor naturvitenskapen arbeidet Stobæus særlig med studiet av fossiler. På det historiske feltet innførte han nye retninger som studie av fornminne og numismatikk. Han opparbeidet store samlinger som siden ble overtatt av universitetet i Lund.

I 1906 ble det satt opp en byste av Stobæus laget av Walter Runeberg på universitetsplassen i Lund.
