Karakterskuespiller

En karakterskuespiller er en skuespiller som spiller uvanlige, interessante eller eksentriske biroller.^[1] Uttrykket, som ofte blir forstått som det motsatte av en hovedrolleskuespiller, er noe tvetydig: i bokstavelig forstand kan alle skuespillere betraktes som karakterskuespillere, ettersom alle spiller karakterer, men vanligvis brukes begrepet om en skuespiller som spiller markante og viktige biroller. Noen ganger brukes det om en skuespiller som spiller en rollefigur som er veldig ulik dem selv. Uttrykket kan også brukes om en skuespiller som har spesialisert seg på mindre roller. I begge tilfeller er karakterene større roller enn bare småroller eller statister. Uttrykket brukes i hovedsak til å beskrive tv- og filmskuespillere og er mindre brukt til å beskrive teaterskuespillere.^[2]
