Joseph Harold Greenberg (født 28. mai 1915, død 7. mai 2001) var en framstående, men også kontroversiell lingvist. Han er kjent både for sitt arbeid innen genetisk klassifisering av språk og språktypologi. Joseph Greenberg ble født i Brooklyn i New York og var i mange år tilknytta Stanford University.

Joseph Greenberg er mest kjent for sitt arbeid innen synkronsk lingvistikk og sin jakt på språkuniversaler. Han foreslo også flere såkalte makrofamilier, og prøvde å bevise at mange språk som vanligvis regnes for å tilhøre forskjellige språkfamilier, er i slekt med hverandre.
