Jeepney er en busstype som brukes i kollektivtrafikken på Filippinene.

Opprinnelse og bruksområder

Opprinnelig var jeepneyene basert på en forlenget Jeep, som amerikanerne etterlot seg i landet etter andre verdenskrig. Jeepneyene produseres i dag helt og holdent på Filippinene. De blir gjerne flott dekorert av sine eiere og benyttes helst i skytteltrafikk, hovedsakelig i byområder, men det finnes også eksempler på lengre ruter. Rutenavnet står gjerne skrevet langs sidene på kjøretøyet og i frontruta.

Egenskaper og praksiser

Jeepneyene er ikke utstyrt med vinduer i passasjerkabinen, men de fleste har nedtrekkbare plastvinduer som kan brukes i tilfelle regn. Jeepneyene har ikke passasjerdører, og passasjerene går inn bak på jeepneyen og setter seg på den ene av de to benkene som er plassert på langs i passasjerkabinen. Hvis jeepneyen er full, er det ikke uvanlig at man står på stigtrinnet bak på jeepneyen og holder seg fast så godt man kan. Betalingen, cirka to norske kroner, leveres til sjåføren gjennom en åpning mellom passasjerkabinen og førerhuset. Dersom du sitter langt bak, leverer du pengene til en passasjer lengre frem og roper til sjåføren hvor du skal av. Det utstedes ikke billetter. Når en passasjer ønsker å stige av, banker vedkommende med en mynt mot et metallhåndtak eller roper til sjåføren.[1]

Enkelte jeepneyer har egen konduktør som tar imot betalingen.

Noen jeepneyer har air conditioning og vinduer og sender filmer mens du kjører.
