Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead

Den onde heksa tegnet av John R. Neill i en av de amerikanske barnebøkene om Trollmannen fra Oz av L. Frank Baum.

«Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead» (på norsk gjerne gjengitt som «Den onde heksa er død») er en sang fra den amerikanske musikalfilmen Trollmannen fra Oz fra 1939. Komponist er Harold Arlen, teksten er ved E. Y. Harburg. Melodien er, på linje med «We're Off to See the Wizard» og «Over the Rainbow», en av de klassiske sangene fra eventyrfilmen.

«The Witch Is Dead» fikk ny aktualitet og ble omstridt da den i april 2013 ble benyttet etter at den tidligere britiske statsministeren Margaret Thatcher døde. En omfattende aksjon på sosiale medier førte til at den seilte opp på engelske platebarometere. BBC fikk et dilemma. Å spille plata ville være særs lite ærbødig, sett i forhold til Thachers bortgang. Å kutte den fra lista ville bli sett på som sensur. BBC valgte en mellomløsning; de spilte en del av melodien, ledsaget av et nyhetsinnslag som forklarte sammenhengen.[1]

Barbra Streisand og Harold Arlen spilte inn duetten på Arlens studioalbum Harold Sings Arlen (with Friend) i 1966.[2]
