Bent Faurschou Hviid (født 7. januar 1921 i Asserbo, død 18. oktober 1944 i Gentofte) er navnet på den danske motstandsmannen «Flammen» i Danmark under andre verdenskrig.

Liv og virke

Bakgrunn

Han ble som sønn av hotelleier Wilhelm Faurschou Hviid (1884-1945) og hans hustru Marie-Louise Diderikke Faurschou fød Larsen (1895-1945), og ble 27. mars 1921 døpt i Melby kirke. Hotellet i familiens eie var Birkegården Hotell. Bent hadde en søster, Marie-Louise Swanstrøm, og en bror, Jan Faurschou Hviid.

Da han i 1930-årene oppholdt seg i Tyskland for skolegang, ble han ikke bare kjent med forholdene under nazismen, men ble også kjent med en gruppe antinazister. Han ble motstander av Adolf Hitler og av den nazistiske ideologi.

Annen verdenskrig

I 1943 sluttet han seg til en motstandsgruppe i Holbæk, som produserte flyveblader og begikk sabotasjeaksjoner. Senere samme dag dro han til København og ble aktiv i motstanden der.

Han fikk sitt dekknavn da han farvet sitt lyse hår, og ved en feil ble det flammende rødt. Flammen var en av de mest berømte motstandsmann i Dansk motstandsbevegelse. Sammen med «Citronen» og «Gemüse» startet han Holger Danske gruppe I. Senere oppstod Holger Danske-gruppene II, III, IV og V.

Han ble satt til å utføre likvideringer. Det vites ikke nøyaktig hvor mange «Flammen» drepte; et rykte var at det var 22 personer. «Citronen» var den som kjørte «Flammen» på likvidasjonsoppdragene. Sammen ble de Danmarks mest ettersøkte motstandsduo. Tyskerne utlovet den høyeste dusør noensinne i okkupasjonstiden til den som hjalp med å finne «Flammen».[3]

Den 18. oktober 1944 ble han overrasket av tyskerne i et hus i Gentofte, hvor han oppholdt seg med familien Bomhoff. Han var ikke bevæpnet og hadde ingen mulighet for flukt, så han valgte å begå selvmord ved å ta cyankalium. Han oppholdt seg i annen etasje da han tok pillen. Da tyskerne kom opp dit, var han allerede død.

Flammen fikk posthumt tilkjent den amerikanske «Medal of Freedom», og det ble reist en minnesten for ham i Asserbo der han var født. På stenen står det:

Det vites ikke hvorfor hans navn, Bent Fauerschou Hviid, er skrevet Bendt Fauerschou-Hviid, med 'd' i Bent og '-' mellom Fauerschou og Hviid.

I 2007/2008 ble spillefilmen Flammen & Citronen laget, med Thure Lindhardt i rollen som Flammen.
