Nordmenn (nordmann, nordbu) viser til folk frå Noreg. Dei snakkar norsk, som regel som morsmål. Juridisk kan nordmenn definerast som personar med norsk statsborgarskap.

Omgrepet «etnisk norsk» blir ofte nytta om nordmenn som stammar frå fleire generasjonar nordmenn og som ikkje tihøyrer nasjonale minoritetar, som samar eller romanifolk. Denne gruppa utgjer fleirtalet av befolkninga i Noreg. I denne samanhengen er nordmenn rekna som eit germansk folkeslag. Germanarane slo seg ned i Skandinavia allereie før Kristi fødsel. Nordmenn er nærskylde med danskar, svenskar og andre germanske nabofolk.

Utvandra nordmenn

Også personar som ikkje lenger har norsk statsborgarskap kan rekna seg som norske. Nordmenn har prega kulturen i delar av Storbritannia og USA gjennom tidleg og seinare utvandring. Av dei ca. 9,5 millionar menneska i verda med norsk etnisk opphav lever 4,5 millionar i Noreg.

Norske vikingar busette seg på Færøyane, Shetland, Orknøyane, Skottland, Nord-England og Island, hovudsakleg som som bønder, frå 800-talet.

På 1600- og 1700-talet drog mange nordmenn til Nederland og slo seg særleg ned i Amsterdam. Dei tok gjerne arbeid som hushjelpar og sjøfolk. Nokre av desse drog vidare til nederlandske koloniar som Ny-Amsterdam (New York).

Norsk utvandring til USA fann særleg stad frå 1850 til 1920-åra. Etterkomarane av desse er kjende som norsk-amerikanarar. Dei fleste norsk-amerikanarane i dag snakkar ikkje norsk.

Større mengder nordmenn har også utvandra til Canada og Australia.
