De Zygopetalinae vormen een subtribus van de Cymbidieae, een tribus van de orchideeënfamilie (Orchidaceae).

De naam is afgeleid van het geslacht Zygopetalum.

De subtribus omvat 28 geslachten en ongeveer 420 soorten voornamelijk epifytische orchideeën uit het Neotropisch gebied, gekenmerkt door vier afgeplatte, op elkaar geplaatste pollinia, en een smalle, spleetvormige stempel.

Taxonomie en fylogenie

Traditioneel wordt de subtribus Zygopetalinae in de tribus Maxillarieae geplaatst, maar DNA-onderzoek door Cameron in 1999[1] en later in 2005 door Chase et al.[2] toont aan dat deze laatste groep deel uitmaakt van een uitgebreide maar monofyletische tribus Cymbidieae.
