Polis Unit K-9 (Bahasa Cina: 警犬组), dahulunya Police Dog Unit (PDU)[1] merupakan sebuah kekuatan pakar dari Pasukan Polis Singapura (SPF) di bawah pimpinan langsung dari Komando Operasi Khusus. Ia mengkhususkan diri melalui latihan anjing polis di pengesanan letupan, pengesanan ubat, tugas menjaga dan operasi anti-kejahatan, dan bekerjasama dengan seluruh SPF dan Pasukan Rumah.

Sejarah

Anjing yang pertama kali digunakan melalui pekerjaan perpolisian di Singapura ketika seekor anjing terier Airedale diperoleh daripada seorang pegawai tentera Inggeris untuk membantu melalui pencarian tahanan melarikan diri pada tahun 1911, walaupun ia terhenti mendadak pada tahun berikutnya apabila anjing tersebut mati. Ia tidak kembali sehingga tahun 1950-an, ketika pengalaman positif menggunakan anjing polis di Inggeris menunjukkan keberkesanan mereka. Hal ini mendorong kerajaan Singapura untuk menghantar Ketua Inspektor Frank C Pestana ke Sekolah Metropolitan Latihan Anjing untuk Kursus 3 bulan Pelatih Anjing pada 1954.

Sekembalinya dengan empat ekor anjing gembala Jerman, pendahulu dari PDU didirikan di Sekolah Latihan Polis (sekarang Komander Latihan) di Thomson Road pada tahun 1955. Anjing ini digunakan untuk pelbagai peranan, termasuk penindasan aktiviti masyarakat rahsia, kawalan massa, patroli anti-rumah melanggar dan pelacakan penjahat.

PDU telah berkembang kepada lebih dari 250 anjing hari ini. Pangkalan barunya di Jalan Mowbray secara rasmi dibuka pada tarikh 31 Januari 2004, selepas berpindah ke laman Choa Chu Kang site[2] dari Camp Mowbray tua di Ulu Pandan Road Singapura bersama-sama dengan Polis Tentera TNI Komando.

  • Sarjan Chan Kong Wah, 25, ditemui mati dengan luka tembakan tunggal ke sisi ketua di pagi hari tarikh 15 Jun 2002 di sebuah pejabat terkunci di Tuas Checkpoint di mana dia bekerja.[3] Dia telah melakukan bunuh diri setelah bertengkar dengan ibunya atas kewangan keluarga.[4]
