Iegūšana
Benzilu iegūst no benzaldehīda benzoīna kondensācijas reakcijā.
Šajā reakcijā iegūto benzoīnu reducē ar vara sulfātu līdz benzilam:
- C6H5−CO−CHOH−C6H5 + 2 Cu2+ → C6H5−CO−CO−C6H5 + 2 H+ + 2 Cu+
