Pirmasis Mozūrijos ežeryno mūšis – mūšis tarp Rusijos ir Vokietijos, vykęs 1914 m. rugsėjo 2–16 d., antrąjį Pirmojo pasaulinio karo mėnesį. Tai įvyko praėjus vos kelioms dienoms po Tanenbergo mūšio, kuriame vokiečių 8-oji armija apsupo ir sunaikino Rusijos 2-ąją armiją. 8-oji armija, naudodamasi Rytų Prūsijos geležinkelių tinklu, greitai judėdama, persirikiavo priešais išsisklaidžiusią Rusijos 1-ąją armiją, nustūmė ją atgal per visą frontą ir galiausiai išstūmė iš Vokietijos. Tolesnę pažangą sutrukdė vokiečių dešiniajame flange pasirodžiusi Rusijos 10-oji armija.[7]

Iki mūšio pabaigos Vokietijos imperijos kariuomenė vos per kelias savaites sunaikino 2-ąją armiją ir sutriuškino 1-ąją armiją. Tai taip išmušė rusus iš vėžių, kad iki 1915 m. pavasario jie nesugebėjo surengti jokių rimtesnių operacijų Vokietijos fronte. Tuo metu vokiečiai pradėjo Gorlicės–Tarnuvo puolimą, kurio metu rusų pajėgos buvo nustumtos gilyn į Rusiją.[8][9]

Beveik iš karto po provincijos išlaisvinimo į Rytų Prūsiją atvyko imperatorius Vilhelmas II. Jis aplankė Lėcių, kitus miestus, buvo artimiausiame 8-osios armijos užnugaryje. Spalio 7 d. provincijos atkūrimui buvo skirta 15 mln. markių.
