Leik Čarlsas (angl. Lake Charles) – miestas Jungtinėse Amerikos Valstijose, pietvakarių Luizianoje, į rytus nuo Bomonto. Kalkasu administracinės parapijos centras. Pro miestą teka Kalkasu upė, telkšo seklūs Čarlso, Prino ežerai; laivybinis kanalas Leik Čarlsą jungia su Meksikos įlanka.^[1]

Yra prekybinis uostas, per kurį išvežami ryžiai, miltai, popierius, fanera, naftos produktai, mediena, baritas, rutilas. Veikia regioninis oro uostas. Leik Čarlsas yra svarbus naftos chemijos pramonės centras. Plėtojama spalvotoji metalurgija (aliuminio), medienos apdirbimo, statybinių medžiagų, chemijos (gumos techninių gaminių, plastikų), plaušienos ir popieriaus pramonė. Apylinkėse siurbiama nafta, gamtinės dujos, kasama siera, taip pat plyti dideli ryžių pasėliai.^[2]

Leik Čarlse veikia Makniso (McNeese) universitetas (įkurtas 1939 m.), vaikų, Imperial Calcasieu, Užgavėnių muziejai. Tarptautinis muzikos ir maisto festivalis, didelė kasmetinė Užgavėnių karnavalo (Mardi Gras) šventė.

Gyventojai

2010 m. 47 % miesto gyventojų buvo baltieji, 47 % – afroamerikiečiai, 2,1 % – mišrios kilmės.^[3] Apie pusė gyventojų – Romos katalikai, kiti – daugiausia protestantai (ypač, pietų baptistai).

Istorija

Gyvenvietę (Čarlstono vardu) 1861 m. įkūrė žydų prekiautojas Markas Eličė (tiesa, šioje vietoje jau anksčiau būta gyvenviečių). 1867 m. pervadintas į Leik Čarlsą. 1910 m. miestą suniokojo gaisras. XX a. pr. – vid. sparčiai augo kaip naftos gavybos ir naftos chemijos pramonės centras.
