Khumbu – kalnų slėnis Aukštuosiuose Himalajuose, Nepalo teritorijoje, esantis daugiau nei 3300 m aukštyje, pavadintas dėl šiaurėje esančio Khumbu ledyno. Šį slėnį šiaurėje, rytuose ir vakaruose uždaro aukščiausias Aukštųjų Himalajų kalnagūbris – Mahalangur himalis, kuriam priklauso net keturios viršūnės, aukštesnės nei 8000 m: Everestas, Lhotsė, Makalu, Čo Oju).

Slėnį suformavo trys upės: Bhote Kosis, Dudh Kosis ir Imja Khola, kurios slėnio pietuose susilieja į vieną ir vėliau tampa Kosio upės intaku.

Gyventojai

Slėnio gyventojai yra šerpai, kurių kalba labai artima tibetiečių kalbai. Jie išpažįsta Tibeto budizmą (Njingmapa sektą), Boną. Kultūriškai artimi tibetiečiams ir kitoms gretimoms Aukštųjų Himalajų tautoms, todėl priskiriami bhotijų grupei. Šerpai atsikėlė iš Tibeto plynaukštės palyginus vėlai – apie XVI a., bėgdami nuo religinių persekiojimų Tibete.

Didžiausia slėnio gyvenvietė – Namče Bazaras (800 pastovių gyventojų). Tengbočės kaime yra didžiausias slėnio vienuolynas, o Kumdžungo vienuolyne laikomas sniego žmogaus skalpas.

Turizmas

Khumbu slėnis yra viena iš labiausiai išvystytų Aukštuosiuose Himalajuose turistinių teritorijų dėl artumo aukščiausių pasaulio kalnų viršūnėms. Čia suformuoti svarbiausi alpinistų keliai, o vietos gyventojai daugiausia užsidirba kaip vedliai kalnuose.

Slėnyje ir aplinkiniuose kalnuose įkurtas Sagarmathos nacionalinis parkas, paskelbtas pasaulio gamtos paveldu. Slėnyje gyvena retos gyvūnų rūšys – muskusinis elnias, laukinis jakas, irbis.
