Julius Kazėnas

Julius Kazėnas (1913 m. balandžio 12 d. Pasvalyje – 1998 m. liepos 8 d. Floridoje, JAV) – dainininkas, pedagogas, chorvedys.

Biografija

Muzikos mokėsi pas vargonininką Petraitį, baigė Panevėžio kurijos vargonininkų kursus. Grojo Pasvalio pučiamųjų orkestre, vėliau buvo jo kapelmeisteris. Apie trejus metus giedojo Kauno Įgulos bažnyčios chore. 1941–1944 m. mokėsi dainuoti Vilniaus muzikos mokykloje pas Stepą Sodeiką. 1942–1944 m. – Vilniaus operos solistas, sukūrė nedidelius vaidmenis Džiuzepės Verdi operoje „Rigoletto“, Šarlio Guno „Romeo ir Džiuljeta“, Žoržo Bizė „Karmen“ ir kituose veikaluose.

1944 m. pasitraukė į Vokietiją, dvejus metus dainavimą studijavo Štutgarto aukštojoje muzikos mokykloje. 1947–1948 m. – M. K. Čiurlionio meno ansamblio chormeisteris. Buvo gavęs pasiūlymą dainuoti Štutgarto operoje, bet 1949 m. išvyko į JAV.

Apsigyvenęs Klyvlende, studijas tęsė miesto muzikos mokykloje, pradėjo vadovauti vokaliniams ansambliams ir chorams. 1949–1950 m. vadovavo Bostono vyrų vokaliniam kvartetui, 1950 m. Klyvlende subūrė „Ąžuolų„ “ vokalinį oktetą ir surengė koncertų.

Daugiau kaip dešimt metų buvo vyskupo Motiejaus Valančiaus ir Šv. Juozapo lituanistinės mokyklos muzikos mokytojas ir chorų vadovas. 1972–1979 m. sėkmingai vadovavo Klyvlendo „Ramovėnų" vyrų chorui. Jį išmokė per 50 dainų ir 15 giesmių. Choras (20 dalyvių) surengė apie 50 koncertų JAV ir Kanadoje, dalyvavo 1978 m. 5-ojoje lietuvių dainų šventėje Toronte.

Harmonizavo lietuvių liaudies dainų, sukūrė dainų vaikų, vyrų ir mišriajam chorams, kūrinių akordeonui. Išleido karinių dainų plokštelę „Kur dangus ugnimi liepsnoja“. Dirbo įvairių kūrybinių organizacijų valdybose. Jo sūnus Bronius Kazėnas taip pat muzikas – dirigentas ir dainininkas.
